PDU Category for PMI Recertification

If you are reporting an eCornell course for PMI recertification, your Professional Development Unit (PDU) category is determined by the content of the course.

PMI divides Education PDUs into three areas of the PMI Talent Triangle®:

Ways of Working: Use this category for learning related to methods, tools, techniques, and approaches for getting work done. Depending on your PMI certification, this may include topics such as project management, risk management, scheduling, requirements management, or agile practices.

Power Skills: Use this category for learning focused on interpersonal and leadership skills. Examples provided by PMI include collaborative leadership, communication, an innovative mindset, purpose orientation, and empathy.

Business Acumen: Use this category for learning focused on effective decision-making, organizational strategy, business objectives, or global trends. This includes understanding how your work or projects align with the broader goals of an organization.

These definitions come from PMI's current Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Handbook. 

How do I decide which category applies to my eCornell course?

Review the course description and learning objectives and compare the primary topics covered in the course with the PMI Talent Triangle categories above.

A course may include learning that applies to more than one category. If so, the PDUs may be divided among the applicable Talent Triangle areas based on the amount of learning associated with each area.

PMI also recommends reviewing the exam content outline for the PMI certification you hold for examples of topics and concepts that qualify as educational content.
