The Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate Program

How is the Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate unique?

The Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate is based on the groundbreaking nutrition research of Cornell Professor Emeritus T. Colin Campbell, PhD, bestselling author of The China Study. Professor Campbell’s work provides one of the most comprehensive views of a Whole-Foods Plant-Based diet and its impact on health, disease prevention, healthcare systems, and society.

Dr. Campbell considers nutrition to be the premier biomedical science. One of the main goals of the Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate is to educate students to evaluate nutrition information on the strength of the scientific evidence. In addition, we want students to emerge from the program able to approach nutrition from the “holistic” perspective advanced by Dr. Campbell. In this way, the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies is working to change the national dialogue about a field of inquiry that is not only widely misunderstood but critical to personal and public health.

We are very proud of the fact that students who enroll in our program represent a diverse group from the general public to medical professionals. Many of our students are interested in nutrition for personal reasons - some have serious illnesses, others have family members battling chronic diseases, and others are simply interested in learning more about what constitutes a healthy diet. We are also pleased to enroll medical and health professionals who want to enhance their skills and education.

Students who complete the program earn a Certificate of Completion from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. The Certificate reflects the rigorous study of the evidence emphasizing the health benefits of a Whole-Foods Plant-Based diet. It does not certify students in a certain field of practice. It does not grant any title, such as "nutritionist," which may be subject to state regulations.

What is the difference between the Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate and the Integrative Nutrition Health Coach Program?

The Integrative Nutrition program is a for-profit health coach training program. Additional information about health coaching can be found on Wikipedia.

The differences between the programs include the cost, length of the program, nutritional philosophies, and organizational mission.

One thing to keep in mind, the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to promote optimal nutrition through science-based education, advocacy, and research. By empowering individuals and health professionals, we aim to improve personal, public, and environmental health.

Student tuition allows us to keep educating more interested learners from around the globe. We offer an educational program that may complement a previous degree. For example, a medical doctor may choose to discuss food but the educational program alone does not certify anyone to offer professional nutritional counseling.

Will the T.Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies make an add-on certificate to cover the differences between the CNS certificate and the Integrative Nutrition certificate? And could we also become certified health coaches?

The T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies does not certify health coaches.

For those students interested in receiving certification to offer professional nutritional counseling, we suggest visiting the website for the American Nutrition Association. Nutrition licensing laws vary from state to state. Depending on your professional career goals and where you reside, this can affect your educational choices.
