Extension Policy

Monique Staats Updated by Monique Staats

To be eligible for an extension, students must have completed at least 50% of the required assignments, per the grade book, before the end of the course. Once this requirement is met, you may request a 48-hour extension by contacting your facilitator via the Canvas inbox before the end of the course. The 50% threshold can be met by submitting either 50% of the total number of requirements or 50% of the total points, whichever you achieve first.

Do note that if you are unable to submit the required coursework even after the extension period, your course will require a retake, which may incur a fee.

Note: If approved, the 48-hour extension will begin at the time that your course ends.
How can I tell if I have completed at least 50%?
The best place to check your course requirements is the grade book! Check out this article for help finding and understanding your grade book.
How do I message my facilitator to request an extension?

I need more time, can I have a longer extension?
Facilitators are only contracted for the period that the course is active. Therefore, we cannot grant extended extensions. If you need time beyond the 48 hours mentioned above, you may need to schedule a retake instead, which may incur a fee. We recommend working toward completion with an extension first and if you still do not finish, contact Student Support via ec_helpdesk@cornell.edu for help scheduling a retake.
