Academic Credit For eCornell Courses

Monique Staats Updated by Monique Staats

Does eCornell offer academic credit or degree programs?

eCornell's specialty is providing executive development and continuing education programs for professionals. Our individual courses do not qualify for academic credit at most institutions. We do offer a number of certificate programs in conjunction with Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations, School of Hotel Administration, College of Engineering, Johnson Graduate School of Management, and College of Human Ecology.

As our programs are professional development certificates, they do not provide college credit hours. However, eCornell is a department of Cornell University, and Cornell University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

To view a complete list of eCornell's Professional Accreditations, please see this page. If you have questions about the types of credits your program of interest offers, you can reach out to our Enrollment Team at ecornellinfo@cornell.edu.

Am I earning a certificate or certification?
eCornell offers professional development certificates, not certifications. Certification requires passing an exam and awards a credential upon successful completion of the exam (ex: PMP, GPHR, SPHR). Certification also requires re-certification to stay current in a specific area. A certificate represents the completion of courses/a program in a specific area. There is no requirement to take a program more than once.
Will my school accept eCornell credits for transfer?
Your eCornell transcript will show earned credits (CEUs or recertification credits, if applicable). We do not offer academic credit and cannot guarantee other institutions will accept your courses for transfer credits. These standards are set by the receiving institution/agency, and we recommend you connect with them for confirmation. If you need eCornell to provide education verification, visit this article for more information.
