How will I receive communications during my course?

Course communications will be sent to the email address on file that you use to log in to your eCornell account. Once your first course starts, you are able to control the frequency you receive course-related notifications (e.g. instantly, daily, weekly).

Messaging within the course environment is the primary method of communication when engaging with your classmates and with the course facilitator.

You can adjust your general notification settings at any time by following the steps below. After your first course becomes available at 9 am ET on the course start date, you can set up and control the frequency of notifications for individual courses. Follow these steps to configure the notification frequency: 

  1. Go to www.ecornell.com and log in using the link in the upper right corner.

  2. Click Take me to my courses located in the sidebar menu (after your course becomes available).

  3. To set up the various ways to receive notifications, hover over the top-right menu, and click the Account icon.​
  4. From the Account menu, click Notifications.
  5. You should see a column with your email address at the top. Below is a list of the various notification topics related to your courses and account.
  6. Hover your pointer over the notification setting for each course activity type to see the current setting. Then click to change the notification frequency. Canvas will provide these options:

  7. Use the notifications tool to your advantage! Notifications and announcements will help you stay on target and be a successful eCornell student.

I adjusted my settings, but I'm still not getting emails!
First, be sure to check your spam folder in case the notification emails are being filtered.

We also suggest adding the following to your address book:

notifications@instructure.com
system@ecornell.com
student_success@ecornell.com


If you are using a work email for your courses, be sure to alert your IT team of the email addresses above so they can whitelist them.

Students using a government address (.gov, .mil, etc), may need to switch to a personal email address, if allowed by their organization, as government accounts have stricter security settings.
