Creating a Response in a Discussion Forum

To create a response to the "Student Lounge", or any other discussion forum, type in the text box that appears directly below the prompt:

A text box will appear below, and now you can enter your content! Note that the discussion board allows customization of your text, and also allows you to include items like links, pictures, files, and more.

Canvas will not auto-save your content. If you are drafting a lengthy response, we recommend typing and saving your response in a different location (like Word or a Google Doc) so that you don't lose your progress. Then, you can copy/paste your work into the discussion.

Once you are satisfied with your post, click the Post button to post your response.

After you post, if your thread is sorted by Newest you will see your response at the top of the thread. You can also sort by Most Active, Most Upvoted, or Oldest. If you select the Unread button, to the right of the sort function, you will only see posts you have not read yet.

Replies to discussion posts will be nested. This puts the replies below and slightly indented from the initial post. You can also show your support by upvoting a classmate's post!

How do I update or edit my discussion board post?
Click on the Edit (pencil symbol) under your discussion board post, it should be in the same text box your post is in. This will re-open your post for editing. Click the reply button again to save the edited post.

Note: Please send your facilitator a message to let them know that you have updated your discussion board post. This will help ensure the update is seen in a timely manner.
