Editing Your Name On Your Record

eCornell allows students to adjust their profile name on their Student Portal, which is private and will not be seen by anyone other than eCornell staff, as well as the Canvas profile, which is seen by facilitators and peers. To make changes to either of your profiles, please visit this article.

To protect the integrity of your credential and the investment you have made, you cannot edit your name as it will appear on your credential once you have specified it in your Student Portal Profile. Please review the "Name as It Will Appear on the Certificate" field in the Profile section of your Student Portal before printing your credential. Names generally cannot be changed once the credential has been printed. If you need to make a change, please contact Student Support at ec_helpdesk@cornell.edu, and provide the completed form attached at the bottom of this article.

If you inadvertently registered an account for someone else (e.g., employer, employee, or client) using your credentials or name, please reach out to your Enrollment Counselor or ecornellinfo@cornell.edu for guidance on the next steps. In such instances, a new account will be required for the intended learner.

If your name has changed since completing/printing your credential and you need to have your credential verified, please contact Student Support. While your name cannot be changed on your credential, a note can be added to your account so that we can match your credential to you.

I want my display name to be different from my formal name. Can I customize it?

I enrolled someone and the profile was acidentally registered under my name! What do I do?
As accounts are specific to the individual, we cannot transfer ownership of an account from one person to another. For this reason, prior to completing checkout, be sure to verify that all information is accurate. If an account is created in error under the wrong name, please connect with your Enrollment Counselor or our Enrollment Team via ecornellinfo@cornell.edu to initiate a drop/refund for the incorrect account.
