Translating Captions and Audio in Course Content Videos

Brittany Iafrate Updated by Brittany Iafrate

Many eCornell courses now feature instructional videos with translated captions and audio options in 19 languages. More languages and courses will be available soon, so keep an eye out for updates! The video below will show you how to change these settings, with text instructions at the bottom of the page.

Steps to change the language for captions or audio:
  1. Click the gear icon near the bottom right corner in the video player.
  2. In the menu, you can choose your language for audio and captions
If you’ve set your Canvas language to something other than English:

If your preferred language is one of the 19 supported, you’ll automatically see captions and the interactive transcript in that language when watching instructional videos. Please note, we are still rolling out this feature and not all videos will have all options listed.

*The video audio will still play in English unless you select a different audio setting

Ask the Expert videos: These videos have translated captions but only play in the original English audio (no audio dubbing).
A few certificates may not have this feature: Some faculty have chosen not to include translated video options, so not every course will have these enhancements.
Which languages are supported?
If your language is supported, you’ll see it as an option in the video player menu. Please note, we are still rolling out this feature and not all videos will have all options listed.
