Resetting Your Password

Monique Staats Updated by Monique Staats

To change your password at any time, follow the steps below. Please note, your username is your preferred email address.

If you are unable to log in to any eCornell site:

If you are unable to log in, you may change your password from the login screen by clicking Forgot your password? after entering your email address. You will receive an email titled "Password reset request" from system@ecornell.com. This email will contain a link to reset your password, which will be active for 24 hours. If you click the link beyond the 24-hour window, you will need to request a new link by repeating the process above.

Should you not receive this email after requesting a reset link, check your spam/junk folder. If it is not there, please contact ec_helpdesk@cornell.edu.

If you are already logged in and would like to change your password:

  • Visit portal.ecornell.com.
  • Click on Profile in the left-hand navigation.
  • Locate the Password section (first on the list).
  • Click the Change My Password button.
  • Fill out the Current password, New password, and Confirm new password boxes. Make sure that your password meets the requirements listed, and note that passwords are case-sensitive.
  • Click Submit at the bottom of the page.
What are the password guidelines?
For most students, the password must adhere to the following guidelines. Corporate partners may require different password guidelines for their students. Please follow the guidelines as written when you click Change Password:
-At least 8 characters in length
-30 characters or less in length
-Contain at least ONE uppercase character
-Contain at least ONE lowercase character
-Contain at least ONE number
-Contain at least ONE of the following special characters: @ ] \ _ ^ [ " # ! & ' ` $ % * + ( ) . / , ; ~ : } | ? { > = <
I haven't received the password reset email, why?
If you do not see the password reset email within five minutes, be sure to check your spam/junk folder. The password reset email will come from system@ecornell.com; be sure to add this address to your contacts.

Students who use a government or military email address (.gov, .mil, etc.) often report not receiving emails due to strict security settings within their inbox. If this is the case, be sure to first check spam/junk, or you may want to consider using a personal email if possible.

If you are taking eCornell courses through an employer and are using a corporate email address, you may want to check with your company's IT department to whitelist our emails.
