Retake Policy

For any program not completed, if you need to retake one or more courses within your program, there will be a retake fee for each course. In an effort to support our students, we offer a heavily discounted rate of $75 per course, to assist you in completing your program successfully. A course is considered incomplete if a start date was selected and the course was not completed before the set end date, regardless of student access.

Retake fees are paid online using a personalized payment link. To request a retake, please contact the Student Support team at helpdesk@ecornell.cornell.edu and include your preferred course start date. Our team will confirm your eligibility and provide a payment link, if applicable.

Retake fees are generally the responsibility of the student and may not be covered by an employer or sponsoring organization. Any applicable retake fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Please note: Retake policies may vary for certain programs or organizational partnerships. Student Support will confirm the policy that applies to your enrollment when processing your request.

Some programs may have higher applicable retake fees. This is includes but not limited to:
- Executive Presence: $300 per retake section
- Master Beekeeping: $125 per course or exam
- Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training: Students must re-enroll from the enrollment portal
Students taking course(s) through one of our corporate partners may be subject to an alternative policy. Please be sure to check with your company administrator.
Are you a Boeing employee who enrolled with an LTP voucher?
Boeing students approved to take eCornell courses are eligible for a one-time complimentary retake for their first Incomplete course. If additional retakes are required once the complimentary retake has been utilized, students must request a new voucher to cover the retake enrollment. These vouchers will inform eCornell staff of the specific course(s) and start date(s) and must be sent to the eCornell Accounting Department. Boeing employees who do not receive a "Complete" on a course will need a new voucher to retake the course. Please note that a grade of Complete on your retake will not override the first attempt. Boeing LPT will still ask students to pay the fee for the Incomplete course.
Are you an employee of a Humentum Member Organization?
Students associated with a Humentum Member Organization are eligible for a one-time complimentary retake for their first Incomplete course. If additional retakes are required, please visit the Humentum self-pay enrollment portal to take advantage of the discounted rate.
Why do I need to retake a course, can't you just accept my late work?
Courses are scheduled for a two-week window. Once the course closes, the facilitator is no longer active. Therefore, any work submitted after the course closes will not be reviewed/graded, unless you have received an extension.
If I retake a course, do I have to start all over?
If you retake a course, you are still able to access any work from your first attempt, and you oftentimes do not have to redo all the work*. To “retake” the course, you must re-upload or copy/paste your previous work to the new course and complete any of the incomplete portions from the first time attempt. Canvas will not transfer your work over for you, so you must resubmit your work manually.

Since facilitators are not active in closed courses, this is the most efficient way to have your work graded.

*Please note: If a course has been updated between your previous session and your retake session, all new work is required and you may not be able to utilize your previously completed work. Students are responsible for ensuring their submitted work meets the requirements of each course, as outlined in the course syllabus.
How do I know what the required passing grade is for my course?
Most courses require a grade of 85% in order to receive a Complete. However, the best place to check is your course syllabus, which you can locate by following the steps in this article.
