AI FAQ

Brittany Iafrate Updated by Brittany Iafrate

How is AI used in relation to student work?

AI is not used to determine student grades or to grade student work. Student work is reviewed, evaluated, and graded by human facilitators. Facilitators may use approved tools to support parts of the feedback process, but assessment decisions, grading, and final feedback remain the responsibility of the facilitator.

Is student work used to train AI systems?

No. Student submissions are not used to train AI systems. We are committed to protecting the integrity, privacy, and ownership of student work.

Are students required to use AI in courses?

In some courses, AI may be referenced or included as a way to explore course concepts. These activities are designed to support learning and reflection, not to replace independent thinking, creativity, or original work.

What is eCornell’s overall approach to AI?

Our approach is to use AI carefully, transparently, and with human oversight. AI may support aspects of the learning experience, but it does not determine grades, replace human facilitation, or substitute for original student work.
