Q & A for Master Beekeeping Students

I have some questions...

Topic Areas

Before you start:

Q: Is a monthly Pay-as-You-Go option available for this program?

A: No, pay-as-you-go is not available.

Q: Is the Master Beekeeping Certificate and/or its courses eligible for the GI Bill?

A: No, these courses are not eligible for the GI Bill.

Q: How long do I have access to course materials?

A: Access from your Canvas dashboard ends one week after the course instructional period ends. You may then access concluded courses by navigating to Courses > All Courses > Past Enrollments.

Course experience:

Q: What is the level of effort required?

A: You should budget three to five hours per week.

Q: When can I see the course syllabus? The curriculum (syllabus) is not on the website.

A: The syllabus becomes viewable once your course access is available.

Q: What is the instructional period of each course?

A: Duration is the same for each course:

  • PTRENT001 - Honey Bee Evolution, Biology, and Behavior three weeks
  • PTRENT003 - Managing Pests and Diseases four weeks
  • PTRENT002 - The Science and Art of Beekeeping three weeks
  • PTRENT004 - The Rewards and Contributions of Beekeeping three weeks

Q: What are the requirements for course discussions?

A: This varies by course. You are welcome to participate in all course discussions but are required to participate in at least two. Be certain to submit the titles of the discussion board topics where you participated in the "Verify Your Participation in Course Discussions" assignment.

Q: Are any live conferences or webinars a part of these courses?

A: This may vary on a course-by-course basis.

Q: Does this program meet the standards of the Eastern Apiculture Society (EAS)?

A: This program is separate from the Eastern Apicultural Society’s, but some students choose to use the Cornell course material as a study guide, and then take the exams through EAS. The depth and breadth of the exam material are similar to the EAS, but we cannot guarantee we will cover all the material that will appear on the EAS exams.

Field exam:

Q: What dates are the exams available?

A: The exams (field, written, oral) are offered in-person or virtually. The exams are held during the US Summer months of June through September. Specific dates for in-person exam appointments will be offered through the prep course PTRENT005A - Master Beekeeping: Schedule and Prepare for your Exams.

Q: What are the accommodations for coming to Ithaca for the Exam Series?

A: Although we will not be providing accommodations, as we near the Exam Series time frame, we will provide a list of local places for your consideration.

Certificate:

Q: How will I receive my certificate?

A: Once the four online courses are complete, and you have successfully completed the field, written, and oral exams, you will be able to download your certificate from your student portal. See this article for instructions.
