eCornell Course Length

Monique Staats Updated by Monique Staats

How long are the courses?

Most eCornell courses have a two-week instructional period during which course requirements must be completed. There are a few exceptions* to this, but a large majority of courses are two weeks. Courses start on Wednesdays and end on Tuesdays. If you are uncertain when the course will end, refer to the initial welcome announcement you received at the beginning of the course, or visit your portal home page and click on your course to view the full details.

Note that all required assignments must be completed within the instructional period, and must be submitted before the course end. Courses end on Tuesdays at 11:59 PM ET regardless of the student's time zone.

*Data Analytics courses (SHA570 series), Nutrition and Healthy Living courses (DNS600 series), those beginning with course codes in an 800 series, CAS501, HADM, or NCCY do not follow this two-week rule.

When do I have to be online?
Read more about our course structure here.
Can I have more than two weeks to finish my course?
Read more about our extension policy/process here. We cannot grant more than a 48-hour extension window to qualifying students. If you cannot finish the course by the end date, you can either transfer within the transfer window or may need to schedule a retake.
But I was told I have two years to finish?
Certificate programs, which are comprised of multiple individual courses, have a 2-year expiration. The individual courses, however, have firm start/end dates that are typically two weeks in length. Be sure to make note of the start/end dates listed in your enrollment confirmation email.
